The Émie line is a collection of handbags from Le Tanneur, a French master leather goods maker founded in 1898. This line reinterprets the iconic Emilie bag with a softer silhouette, combining smooth leather and suede while retaining the signature Double T detail. The Emie comes in several sizes: medium, large, and XL, and can be carried by hand, over the shoulder, or crossbody.
The Emie bag is a modernized version of the Emilie. It retains the signature Double T detail and the silhouette of the Emilie, but features a softer leather made from a combination of smooth leather and suede. In contrast, our Emilie bag, with its grained leather or signature T-grain leather, has a more structured, straight silhouette. The interior layout also differs slightly, with Emie featuring additional pockets.
The Emie bag is crafted from smooth leather and suede—leather that has been lightly sanded on the surface, giving it a soft, velvety appearance. This blend gives the bag its suppleness and texture, but also lends it a character all its own.

Note: All of them can be carried by hand, over the shoulder, or across the body thanks to their adjustable and removable shoulder strap.

The Emie bag can be carried in different ways depending on its size (Medium, Large, or XL). All of these can be worn over the shoulder or crossbody using the removable, adjustable shoulder strap which is a feature shared by all the bags. Please note that the medium and large sizes offer a second way to carry the bag over the shoulder thanks to the removable short handle.
Suede leather requires special care, which differs from smooth leather. To learn more about looking after different types of leather, check out our care guide or visit us in-store.
An adjustable, removable shoulder strap that matches the bag is included. All of our bags also come in a protective dust bag designed for storage or transport.

full-grain leather
At Le Tanneur, we source the finest materials and expertly work with so-called “full-grain” leather. This is the finest part of the leather and our preferred choice. As such, 100% of the leathers used for our collection come from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), a label responsible for assessing tanneries worldwide.

Our partner workshops located in Europe, North Africa or Asia have signed the Le Tanneur Ethical Charter. Each new season, we are committed to prioritizing production in our workshops located in the Pays de la Loire and offer collections such as Madeleine, Louise , Hortense or the Sans Couture, all made in France.
our commitments
In addition to full-grain leather, Le Tanneur is committed to using recycled materials. We use leather offcuts to make our jewelry boxes, which are now made mostly from recycled leather. Furthermore, all packaging is certified by the FSC and PEFC labels, both of which guarantee sustainable forest management.
